Need help understanding dangerous goods compatibility?

Dangerous goods compatibility charts can help you identify what dangerous goods can be stored together, and which ones need to be kept apart. There are several dangerous goods compatibility charts around. In Australia, there are two that you may come across, one is related to the transport of dangerous goods and is published in the Australian Dangerous Goods Code for Transport by Road and Rail and the other is related to storage and can be used as a guide for separating dangerous goods in the workplace. This second one is published by Standards Australia in AS/NZS3833-2024 The storage and handling of mixed classes of dangerous goods, in packages and intermediate bulk containers.

The chart below is based on the chart published in the Australian Standard and is suitable for using as a guide for determining a safe storage for dangerous goods in your workplace. To use the chart press the “Play” button, then find the dangerous goods you would like to store in the first column and the top row and look to see where they intersect in the chart. Click on the letter for your specific combination to find out what you should do.

Note:- The Dangerous Goods Compatibility Chart is based on segregation distances for significant storage volumes like drums and IBC’s. If you are looking to store in a laboratory or small sized quantities, follow the intentions of the chart but take a practical approach when applying the distance stated.
